Weekly update: Vienna mourns the victims of tragic terror attack

Vienna mourns the victims of the terror attack that left four dead and twenty-two injured on 2nd November. The attacker, a 20-year-old Austrian and North-Macedonian citizen, tried to join the terror militiaIslamic State in April 2019 and was already known to the authorities: interior minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) spoke of ‘obvious mistakes’. As a result, the head of the Vienna State Agency for State Protection and Counter-Terrorism has been suspended from duty. The government has also ordered the closure of radical mosques.


Culture


The Court of Auditors has reported that three letters of Austrian painter Egon Schiele have been missing from the Museum of Military History since 2016, when the artefacts (worth 40,000 euros) mysteriously disappeared. A criminal investigation is  currently underway.
