Travel restrictions
From 23 May people travelling to Germany from the UK may only enter the country if they are either a German citizen or resident or have an urgent humanitarian reason. The restrictions were imposed after Germany's Public Health Institute designated the UK as a virus variant area of concern. Anyone entering the country from the UK will have to quarantine for two weeks, even if they test negative for the coronavirus.

Promoting German Studies
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is calling for proposals for its programme to promote German Studies in the UK and Ireland. Funding will be available for three project areas to take place in 2022: academic summer schools, joint Higher Education research projects, and short research visits. Full details here. Art
The National Gallery in London is to host the first major UK exhibition of German Renaissance artist Albrecht Dürer in nearly 20 years, including works never before seen in the UK. The exhibition will run from 20 November 2021 to 27 February 2022.
Social media
A man from Germany has become an unlikely celebrity in Bracknell after sharing his love for the Berkshire town on social media. Henry Artelt, 77, lives in Leverkusen, which is twinned with Bracknell. His home town features the tourist attraction Bracknell Square, which comprises a red phone box, a post box and a Bracknell Forest Council branded litter bin.
