Weekly update: Vienna extends lockdown, Health Minister resigns

Due to the critical situation in intensive care units, the state of Vienna has extended the current lockdown until 2 May. In the meantime, the government is planning a large-scale re-opening starting in the same month.

Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Grüne), one of the most popular Austrian politicians, has resigned from his position due to overexertion and health problems. With this resignation, the Greens are losing an important mediator in their already challenging partnership with the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP).
