Weekly update: new releases from Cro, Jupiter Jones and Symba

New releases

Cro’s new track “ALLES DOPE” is a feel-good track reminiscent of the French electronic duo Daft Punk. Playful vocal effects and a funky bassline will no doubt propel this track up the charts.

After parting ways in 2018, indie rock band Jupiter Jones have released their first single after reuniting, with “Überall waren Schatten”. Minor-key indie riffs and nostalgic synths intertwine in a retrospective reflection on the current crisis set in a post-pandemic world.

This week, there has been another important release in the Berlin rap scene, with Symba dropping “Springfield”, a melodic, thoughtful, and uncharacteristically slow track, as he looks to build on the success of 2020 and his breakthrough hit “Angels Sippen”. In “Springfield”, it’s all about the vibe, and less about the rapper’s eccentric persona.

Song of the week

Peter Schilling’s Major Tom (Völlig Losgelöst) (1982), his answer to David Bowie’s 1969 hit “Space Oddity”, has recently returned to prominence thanks to the English version featuring in hit drama Deutschland 83 in North American and UK broadcasts of the series. Schilling’s cosmic synthpop style earned him considerable fame in the 1980s.
