Weekly update: Germany to allow recycling of old electronics in supermarkets

Recycling

The German government has announced plans that will see consumers able to recycle old electronic devices in supermarkets. The regulations will mean that supermarkets and pound shops will have recycling points,

accepting devices such as old phones. They will be installed by 1st July 2022 at the latest.

Agriculture

The CDU agricultural ministry has conceded to demands by the SPD environment ministry over EU agricultural aid. 37% of direct payments starting in 2023 will be dependent on additional benefits for the climate, the environment and animal welfare, rather than the 28% originally proposed by the agricultural ministry. This will rise to 42% by 2026, but the specific details - as well as the exact environmental benefits of the policy - remain unclear.
