Weekly update: EU settled status deadline, Climate Dialogue, travel news

Settled status deadline

EU citizens and their family members living in the UK now have less than 50 days to apply for settled status, which allows EU citizens to continue to work, study, access the NHS and other benefits in the UK. The final deadline is 30 June 2021.

Climate

Germany’s Federal Minister for the Environment Svenja Schulze and the UK Chair-designate of COP26 Alok Sharma welcomed 40 world leaders to the 12th Petersberg Climate Dialogue last week, which resulted in a call to make this year’s UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow a success and to conclude negotiations on all unresolved aspects of the rulebook under the Paris Agreement.

Travel

Germany’s health agency has re-classified the UK as a coronavirus ‘risk area’ amid growing concerns about the spread of the Indian Covid-19 variant, barely a month after the UK was removed from the list. However, travellers from the UK are still able to avoid quarantine under recently updated travel rules.

Goethe-Institut work shadowing

The Goethe-Institut London is accepting applications from Sixth Form students for a week of online work shadowing on a collaborative creative project. The ‘Praktikumswoche’ runs from 25-29 October 2021 and participants will require at least GCSE-level German language ability. The deadline for applications is 11 June 2021.
